Your opportunity

UIEX Germany is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Supervisor to join our team, focusing on the design and development of Mechanical systems for industrial equipment, specifically for surface treatment , that will report to the R&D  Manager in Hamburg and functionally to the R&D Director.

Your Mission

• Lead and manage a team of mechanical designers, including setting performance goals, providing technical guidance, conducting regular performance reviews, and fostering a collaborative team culture. Mentor junior designers to enhance their technical skills and professional growth.

• Oversee the full mechanical design lifecycle, including conceptual design, 3D modeling, 2D detailed drafting, prototype development, design verification, and design for manufacturing (DFM) optimization. Ensure designs comply with industry standards, customer requirements, and company quality specifications.

• Develop and implement design strategies and plans aligned with product roadmaps and business goals. Prioritize design tasks and allocate resources effectively to meet project timelines and budget constraints.

• Review and approve mechanical design outputs (3D models, drawings, BOMs, test reports) to ensure technical accuracy, manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Identify design flaws and provide constructive feedback for improvements.

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineering, manufacturing, quality control, sales, and marketing, to integrate mechanical designs with overall product solutions, resolve design-related issues, and support product launch activities.

• Drive continuous improvement of design processes, tools, and methodologies. Evaluate and introduce new design software, technologies, or materials to enhance design efficiency and product performance.

• Manage design changes and engineering change orders (ECOs) by assessing their impact on product performance, manufacturing, and cost. Coordinate with relevant departments to implement changes smoothly.

• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and certifications (e.g., ISO, ASME, CE, UL) in all mechanical design activities. Lead or support design-related audits and certification processes.

• Troubleshoot complex mechanical design and manufacturing issues, providing technical solutions to resolve production bottlenecks, product failures, or customer complaints.

Your Profile

• Master’s Degree Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or a related technical field. Doctor’s degree is preferred.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in Mechanical Design roles, specifically in industrial equipment design.

• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Pro/E, CATIA) and design analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus for FEA). Experience with PLM systems (e.g., Siemens Teamcenter, PTC Windchill) is a plus.

• Deep knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials science, manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, injection molding, casting, welding), and design for manufacturing (DFM) / design for assembly (DFA) practices.

• Strong understanding of industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 9001, ASME Y14.5, CE marking) relevant to the target industry.

• Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop a team of designers to achieve high performance.

• Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
